The Art of Margaret Brundage
One of the most influential peril and bondage artists in history was a woman. And until recently, I'd never heard of her. Her name was Margaret Brundage, and she was a pulp artist, mainly known for her cover art for Weird Tales. From 1932 to 1945, she painted 66 covers for the pulp magazine, including a stretch of 39 straight issues from 1933 to 1936. I ran across her while looking for art for my Fetish Art Tarot series, and found this for The Magician, and I thought, who is this Margaret Brundage, and why have I never heard of her? She was born in 1900 in Chicago and was a high school classmate of Walt Disney. ("I finished; he didn't," she later remarked. Burn!)
